September 10, 2018 Central Penn Professor to Receive Peacemaker Award

The World Affairs Council of Harrisburg announced that Dr. Homiler Elie Phanor, program coordinator for accounting, will receive a Peacemaker in Our Midst award later this month. The honor recognizes individuals and organizations that have served as peacemakers in their communities and around the world.

Dr. Phanor is known as a compassionate counselor and mentor to students at Central Penn. In addition to his nonprofit initiatives in various communities, he is an assistant pastor at UPMC Pinnacle, and frequently travels to Haiti to lend his support to various charitable causes.

“It’s an honor to be recognized,” says Dr. Phanor. “I believe that sometimes the simplest solution out of conflict is being vulnerable enough to understand the emotional attachment of sensitive topics with others, and being a listening ear to those who are a part of marginalized groups in our society.”

Earlier this year, he was named as one of Central Penn’s Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 recipients.

The World Affairs Council of Harrisburg is part of a national network of influential councils dedicated to educating and engaging the residents of our region in global issues.

The 2018 Peacemaker in Our Midst awards will be presented at the International Peace Symposium on Saturday, Sept. 22, at Elizabethtown College.

Congratulations, Dr. Phanor!
