September 7, 2017 CPC represented at It's On Us PA press conference

By Megan Peterson, Title IX Officer & ADA Coordinator

On Wednesday, Sept. 6, lawmakers, advocates, college officials and students gathered in the Capitol Rotunda for Governor Tom Wolf’s It’s On Us PA press conference. It’s On Us PA is a statewide campaign to reframe the conversation around sexual violence and pledge to be part of the solution.

Central Penn College was one of nine colleges represented at the press conference, where Governor Wolf announced new legislation to support the It’s On Us PA campaign. The six-bill, bipartisan legislative package aims to combat sexual assault at both the K-12 and post-secondary level. Governor Wolf and sponsoring senators explained the key aspects of the legislation and advocated for its swift passing.

Three of the six pieces of legislation will directly impact PA colleges and universities, bringing all post-secondary institutions in the state into compliance with best practices related to sexual assault prevention and removing barriers to reporting. The three areas – all of which Central Penn College has already implemented – involve:

  • Affirmative consent standards for sexual contact.
  • Anonymous online reporting options.
  • Amnesty to reporting victims and witnesses from sanctions for ancillary policy violations.

Central Penn College is a proud participant in the It’s On Us PA campaign, and maintains the principle that the campus should be a place of work and learning, free of all forms of gender discrimination, sexual harassment, intimidation, exploitation and sexual misconduct.
