December 5, 2018 Judith Dutill named Director of the Lancaster Center

Central Penn College recently appointed Judith Dutill as the Director of the Lancaster Center, which serves as an additional location for the Summerdale, Pa.-based institution.

“I look forward to building on the success the Center has had since it opened nearly 15 years ago,” says Dutill, a Lancaster resident, who has worked in higher education for more than a decade.

The Lancaster Center holds evening class four days a week, Monday through Thursday. The majority of its students are working adults who live in the greater Lancaster area.

Dutill has held a number of positions at Central Penn, including, most recently, the Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence. She earned a bachelor’s in speech communication from Millersville University and a master’s in professional communication from Purdue University in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

For 10 years, she was an adjunct or assistant professor at a number of area colleges, including Harrisburg Area Community College, Penn State Berks, Rosemont College, Millersville and Central Penn. As more and more classes migrated to online or hybrid (both in-person and online) platforms, she found that she had talent for instructional design––crafting lesson plans that best maximized the attributes of each format (in-person, online, hybrid and remote). That experience has given her insights into what today’s continuing students want.

“People are busy. Most of our students are working adults. Many of them are parents, too,” says Dutill. “They’re looking for courses and programs that help them advance in their current career or launch a new career. And they’re looking for value, convenience and flexibility, which we offer at Central Penn College and the Lancaster Center.”

“Lancaster is a growing, vibrant community,” continues Dutill. “And I believe Central Penn’s Lancaster Center can play a greater role in helping residents in this region realize their potential in the fields of healthcare, business, information technology and other areas.”

Dutill assumed her new duties as Director of the Lancaster Center on October 29.
