July 11, 2018 New graduates finding jobs in their fields

A new survey finds that 84.1% of recent Central Penn College graduates are employed in their chosen field or continuing their education within one year of graduation. Overall, 97.8% of graduates were employed in some capacity or continuing their education.

This new data comes from the recently published “2016-2017 One-Year Graduate Follow-up Report” compiled by the college’s Career Services department. “The results indicate that our students are getting a valuable career-focused education that prepares them for the workforce,” says Director Steve Hassinger, who has headed the department since 2002.

High knowledge rate

Hassinger is particularly proud of the survey’s 92.9% knowledge rate, which means the department obtained employment information for all but 27 recent graduates.

The National Association of Colleges & Employers recommends a knowledge rate of at least 65% for employment surveys, which Central Penn far exceeded.

What makes the 92.9% mark even more impressive is that initial response to the survey, which was mailed in October 2017, was only 16%.

“The entire Career Services team is committed to following up with grads via email, phone and social media. They don’t leave any stone unturned,” says Hassinger.

Another highlight for Hassinger is that 94% of graduates said they are very prepared or somewhat prepared for their chosen field. “This tells me that Central Penn continues to deliver on its mission of providing students the education needed for employment and advancement in their fields,” he says.
