On November 12, Central Penn College faculty and staff gathered at the annual Years of Service & Recognition event to celebrate their accomplishments during the past year. Several staff members received awards at the recent event, and are profiled below.

Above and Beyond Staff Excellence Award - Kristi Castanzo

Kristi CastanzoGraphics Specialist Kristi Castanzo, of Harrisburg, Pa., was awarded the Above and Beyond Staff Excellence Award.

"Kristi continually goes the extra mile with respect to all of the projects she designs and the deadlines she juggles," says Marketing Services Director Mary Wetzel. "She looks at every project that comes across her desk as an opportunity to to create a quality piece that more than fills the needs of the requester."

The honor is awarded to a Central Penn staff member who demonstrates the college's brand promise through actions and work ethic, through one or more of the following:

  • promotes a work environment that is collegial and supportive,
  • positively influence others through their actions,
  • consistently goes above and beyond without fanfare,
  • takes initiative to solve problems and improve work situations without being prompted and demonstrates reliability and perseverance and focuses on results.

Weekend Warrior - Cheryl Gressley

Cherly GressleyCheryl Gressley, of Northampton, Pa. and enrollment assistant at Central Penn College Lehigh Valley, received the 'Weekend Warrior' award. In recognition of Gressley's volunteerism and community service, she was rewarded with a day off of work and a $500 donation for the charity of her choice. 

She presented her $500 award to Marvin Smith, left, chairman of the board, and Kraig Hess, center, president of the Sons of a Carpenter, a nonprofit volunteer organization that provides community service through the construction or restoration of structures to instill hope to those who have encountered loss due to uncontrollable circumstances. Gressley serves as the publicity chair for the group.

The $500 donation from Central Penn will start the organization's fund for a woman who suffered a brain aneurysm and needs major remodeling done in a home. The organization is hoping to be done by mid-January 2013.

4.0 Customer Service Award - Stephen Juliano

Stephen JulianoWeb Content Specialist Stephen Juliano, of Mechanicsburg, Pa., was presented with the 4.0 Customer Service Award.

The new award is given to a Central Penn employee who consistently demonstrates excellent customer service and exemplifies living the brand for their coworkers, supervisors, students, faculty, staff or the public through one or more of the following:

  • greeting customers with a cordial and welcoming manner;
  • making the customer feel important and appreciated;
  • ensuring all individuals are treated fairly, with courtesy and respect;
  • being an effective listener to determine the customer's needs;
  • transforming complaints into valuable feedback; and/or
  • successfully meeting a customer's needs.

Rookie of the Year Award - Amber Kreger

Amanda KregerAmber Kreger, of Leola, Pa., and a career services associate at the Central Penn College Lancaster Center, was presented with the Rookie of the Year Award. The new award is given to an outstanding new Central Penn employee who has significantly contributed to the college's organizational mission and has shown outstanding initiative, reliability and dedication to Central Penn. The nominees for this award must be between 6-18 months of employment at the time of nomination.

“Amber has been a tremendous addition to our career services team," says Career Services Director Steve Hassinger. "It is hard to believe that she has been with us for just 18 months when considering how much she has accomplished in that short time frame. She has expanded our relationships with all five of our stakeholders: alumni, students, faculty/staff, business/community and other post-secondary institutions. Her work ethic, professionalism and caring attitude are just a few of the qualities I most appreciate in Amber."
