At Central Penn College

Message from the Dean’s Office

The School of Humanities and Sciences is proud to offer students a range of learning opportunities that work to develop young scholars into the academic leaders of the next generation. We currently offer corporate communications as our primary program of study.  In this major, students learn about the ways media impacts our understanding of the world around us by studying theories of mass media.  Communication students also receive hands-on experience on how to write for public relations, create marketing packages and develop multimedia projects.

In addition to corporate communications, we also host the college’s general education programming and offer courses in arts, biology, chemistry, English, geography, history, honors, humanities, immersion studies, interdisciplinary studies, language, mathematics, philosophy, physics, political science, psychology, science and sociology.

We also offer opportunities for holistic learning experiences such as the Immersion Program in conjunction with the Office of Diversity and Global Education and Honors Studies in conjunction with Residence Life.  These concentrations and programs provide our students with skills and experiences, such as critical thinking, communication and global awareness that employers demand from college graduates.

The school and its faculty pride ourselves on our student-centered teaching, our passion for classroom innovation, and our interactive and immersive learning environment.  We challenge our students to engage with current events by considering their social and historical influences.  We promote critical thought and empathetic consideration by thinking and acting as part of a local and global community.  We help students to make meaning of their disciplines and professions by encouraging interdisciplinary conversations.

As your dean, I am excited to have you continue our proud tradition in humanities and sciences. In your courses with us, you will find yourself among serious, dedicated peers who care deeply about the college and one another.

- Melissa Wehler, Ph.D., Dean
