At Central Penn College

Message from the Dean’s Office

Welcome to the School of Professional Studies at Central Penn College, where our goal is to open opportunities to career-minded students from a variety of academic backgrounds by providing the education and skills needed for employment and advancement in a wide variety of fields and professions.

We welcome your interest, whether you are a prospective first-time college student, a transfer or returning student looking to complete a professional degree, or an already-working professional desiring career advancement. We are especially proud of our commitment to serving first-generation college students, working adults and military veterans.

The School of Professional Studies has entered an exciting period of transition. While we seek to preserve the finest traditions of Central Penn College’s more than 130 years of business-focused education, the School of Professional Studies now incorporates three separate departments that includes Law & Justice, Math & Technology, and Business & Accounting.  Even with this transition, the School of Professional studies remains committed to developing the professional competencies of our students.  The school and faculty work to instill in students the core values of the college, which include communication, critical thinking, global awareness, information literacy, personal leadership, and technological fluency skills.  These concepts and methodologies have been identified as essential to attaining the highest levels of professional achievement.

The balance we strike between career and academic competencies has produced highly competitive graduates.  As such, alumni of the School of Professional Studies are employed by numerous companies and organizations, both local, regional, and national, to include the United States Military, U.S. Naval Supply Systems Command, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Arizona State Department of Child Safety, the City Controller's Office of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia City Council, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, Hershey Entertainment, PSECU, Member’s 1st, Harrisburg Academy, Highmark, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and numerous law firms throughout Central Pennsylvania.  Additionally, several alumni have gone on to start their own companies utilizing the education received at Central Penn College.

This level of education and accomplishment is made possible by our professional studies faculty, who have achieved notable success in a variety of professional fields outside academia.  Our faculty are coming from such agencies and organizations as the Pennsylvania Commission for Women, the Pennsylvania Office of Inspector General, the Pennsylvania State Ethics Committee, the YWCA Greater Harrisburg, the Domestic Violence Legal Center, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, American Association of Fraud Examiners, the National Association of Black Accountants, Merrill Lynch, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the International Society for Preparedness, Resilience and Security. Additionally, several faculty are entrepreneurs themselves owning various business entities, both for-profit and nonprofit. It is from this rich background that they are able to transfer their experiential knowledge into the classroom to enhance student success.  Our faculty also have contributed to the scholarship of professional studies, authoring numerous textbooks (on paralegal aims and methods, constitutional law, administrative law and evidence) as well as refereed journal articles (on topics ranging from the ethics of accounting pedagogies, adaptive learning technologies, to prominent legal issues).

I encourage you to explore more closely what the School of Professional Studies at Central Penn College has to offer you, and to let us welcome you into our dedicated learning community.

- Benjamin Lipschutz, MBA, MEd; Interim Dean, School of Professional Studies
