September 13, 2012 Associate Dean Patrick Hughes named one of Central PA’s Forty Under 40

On Wednesday, October 10, Patrick Hughes will be honored as one of Central Penn Business Journal's 2012 Forty Under 40 award recipients for his commitment to business growth, professional excellence and community service at an evening reception and awards program at Hilton Harrisburg from 6 to 9 p.m. Central Penn College graduates Susan Ewing '06 and Michael Wilson '00, '06 were also selected as award recipients.

Hughes is currently Central Penn College's associate dean of the school of applied sciences, leading and supporting the criminal justice administration, homeland security management, legal studies, physical therapist assistant, occupational therapy assistant and medical assisting degree programs, and overseeing ten full-time faculty members. Having completed all but his dissertation for his doctoral degree in leadership from Alvernia University, Hughes has proven to be an effective organizational leader throughout his professional career in the criminal justice field and as a professor at Central Penn.

"I was honored to be chosen," says Hughes. "I know that there are many well deserving people in the central Pennsylvania area, so it was very humbling."

Pairing hard work with effective leadership skills, Hughes was instrumental in creating and implementing an institution-wide, interdisciplinary 21-credit Leadership Development Program (LDP) at Central Penn College in 2010. He successfully rallied for the program, which was approved and accepted as an institutional member with the International Leadership Association, based out of the University of Maryland. Since then, he has taken the program a step further by advancing it into a new bachelor's degree in organizational leadership.

Hughes volunteers as a baseball coach for the Middletown Athletic and Baseball Association, working with 15-and-16-year-olds in the Middletown Area. Serving his community to the best of his ability, he helped extensively for three months to rebuild two homes located on Adelia St. in Middletown, Pa., last fall after the area flooded and left the homes with extensive damage. He has also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.

Following the event, Hughes and the other award recipients will be featured in a special publication distributed in the October 12 edition of the Central Penn Business Journal. The list of winners will also appear in the 2013 Book of Lists publication.

Sponsors of the 2012 Forty Under 40 program include Members 1st Federal Credit Union, Comcast Business Class, Highmark Blue Shield, Hilton Harrisburg, Infiniti of Mechanicsburg and Classic Drycleaners & Laundromats.
