Information Technology
The Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology was designed to develop a new generation of leaders to excel with the complex and dynamic demands of the current marketplace. The baccalaureate program develops professionals to have an in-depth knowledge of computers and computer applications. Students may choose a concentration in Networking and Security or Application Development, or study Information Technology without a concentration. Further, Central Penn graduates have the ability to express and defend ideas, lead teams, and solve problems by putting information technology to work.
You Will Learn
This degree program will enable students to learn problem-solving and planning skills, in addition to excellent technical skills. The IT program also teaches the following concepts:
- Interpreting legal and ethical considerations regarding technology
- Understanding and applying accepted IT principles.
- Learning about data communications and networking.
- Understanding network and system security.
- Creating and editing working programs.
- Designing and implementing complex database systems.
- Translating business requirements into accurate and effective technical requirements.
Admissions Requirements
Applicants entering the IT Bachelor's Program should possess at least a 2.0 GPA (C average) with recommended preparation or requirements that include:
- Strong background in oral and written communications
- Previous keyboarding and Windows experience
- Two units of high school math to include Algebra
Internship/Capstone Experience
As a career-oriented college and as an addition to our hands-on curriculum, Central Penn requires all students to complete an internship as a part of their academic program. This opportunity allows students to participate and experience their future careers in the real world. Internships range from 180-560 hours in length and include an extensive research project tailored to the individual's career path.
Continuing Education and online students complete a capstone course in place of the traditional internship. This can be done at both the associate and bachelor degree level. This course requires an extensive research project and paper related to the students chosen career path.
