Faculty - Legal Studies & Paralegal

What would you say is the most rewarding thing about teaching "You Can. You Will." students at Central Penn?

I practiced law for twelve years working to empower and advocate for the rights of battered women and children. I find the the "You Can. You Will" promise is closely aligned with how I practiced law. It is rewarding to empower students to mature and find their personal identity and life path--much like I did as an attorney working with my clients.

What is your favorite Central Penn memory?

Commencement! It is deeply gratifying to share in the joy of the day and the celebration of our students' accomplishments. I feel like a proud "parent" watching the students whom I have educated and nurtured receive their college degrees.

While teaching at Central Penn, what has been your biggest personal accomplishment?

My biggest personal accomplishment while teaching at Central Penn was developing the Jurist Academy Legal Studies course. Central Penn students who participate in this course are admitted to Widener University School of Law to participate in a program called the Jurist Academy.

The Jurist Academy is an intensive two-week law school preparatory program that allows college students the opportunity to "walk in the shoes" of a law student by attending classes, completing assigned work, participating in field trips, and receiving Law School Admission Test practice and tips for success. Students receive college credit for their participation in the Jurist Academy. Admission to the Jurist Academy is highly competitive so it has been very satisfying to see our beginning students enter with the goal of entering the Jurist Academy and working hard to obtain that goal.

What makes Central Penn different from other colleges?

Central Penn's atmosphere allows students to receive a very personalized college experience. Central Penn students do not get "lost in the crowd." Our small class sizes foster strong professor-student relationships and encourage self-confidence and academic excellence. At Central Penn, students are active learners--they learn by doing. Hands-on experiential learning is a hallmark of Central Penn's curriculum.
