From Paramedic to Preparedness Manager: Chelsie Ober

From Paramedic to Preparedness Manager: Chelsie Ober’s Journey of Resilience and Success

Chelsie Ober, ’23, is a testament to determination, adaptability, and the profound impact of education. A former Dean’s List Business Administration student at Central Penn College, Chelsie has ascended to become a leading health care administrator at Tower Health in Reading. Her journey from paramedic to preparedness manager not only highlights her unwavering dedication to healthcare but also underscores the role Central Penn College played in shaping her path to success.

Chelsie’s story is remarkable. As a paramedic with 15 years of emergency medical services and hospital-based patient care, she has saved countless lives. However, in a twist of fate, she recently found herself on the other side of care as a recipient of an organ and tissue donation. After enduring years of debilitating back pain, Chelsie’s life was transformed thanks to the generosity of a donor. She regained her strength and mobility, allowing her to continue her vital work and inspiring others with her resilience.

One of Chelsie’s most harrowing experiences as a paramedic was responding to the R.M. Palmer chocolate factory explosion, a tragic natural gas incident that claimed seven lives and injured 11 others. This experience, among many others, solidified her commitment to bridging the gap between public safety partners and hospital systems. Today, her expertise as a process improvement specialist ensures seamless communication and enhanced care for patients.

Chelsie’s academic journey began with an associate degree in health science from a community college in 2015. In 2019, she chose Central Penn College to further her education. She was drawn to Central Penn for its proximity, the availability of in-person classes, and the opportunity to engage directly with professors. These factors provided her with the support and real-world insights she needed to excel in her studies and career.

Encouraging fellow paramedics to consider a business or healthcare management degree, Chelsie exemplifies how education can be a catalyst for career advancement. Her success story is a shining example of how Central Penn College equips students with the skills and knowledge to achieve their professional aspirations.

Now pursuing a master’s degree in Emergency Management, Chelsie continues to advance her expertise. Her inspiring journey recently garnered recognition during Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Month, when Tower Health highlighted her story.

Chelsie Ober’s commitment to medicine, management, and continuous learning has not only transformed her own life but has also positively impacted the lives of countless others. Her success is a reminder that with the right education, determination, and support, extraordinary achievements are possible.

At Central Penn College, we’re proud to have played a role in Chelsie’s journey, and we’re excited to see her continue to make a difference in the world.
