Welcome to First Knight—an exclusive 1-hour session designed to support your transition into college life! This event is tailored to reinforce and expand on the content you’ve already explored during New Student Orientation (NSO) and Claiming the Castle. A maximum of 15 students will be able to sign up, ensuring a personalized experience with our Success Coaches, Erika Wilkinson and Kenton Alston.

During the session, you’ll complete your essential checklist and gain valuable insights to start your semester off right. Whether you’re a residential student required to attend or a commuter, PACT, or online student encouraged to participate, First Knight is the perfect way to kickstart your journey at the college.

Welcome Packet:
As part of your participation, each attendee will receive a Welcome Packet that includes:

  • Week 1 activities
  • Cafeteria schedule for weeks 1 & 2

Checklist Content:
This session will help you complete your essential checklist for success:

  • Syllabus Mapping Worksheets: Two worksheets (one for each delivery method if possible)
  • Confirm textbooks ordered and access online textbooks
  • Survival Guide and SharePoint scavenger hunts to get familiar with campus resources

Handouts: We’ve created a customized planner to keep you organized throughout the semester!


Agenda:

10 minutes – Welcome and Introductions

  • Overview of the session and goals.
  • Meet Success Coaches Erika Wilkinson and Kenton Alston.

15 minutes – Review Checklist Items

  • Go over Syllabus Mapping Worksheets and textbook confirmations.
  • Confirm access to online textbooks and relevant resources.

20 minutes – Survival Guide and SharePoint Scavenger Hunts

  • Walkthrough of the Survival Guide and a campus resource scavenger hunt.
  • Introduction to SharePoint and its tools for success.

10 minutes – Questions & Answers

  • Open the floor for any remaining questions or clarifications from students.

5 minutes – Wrap-up and Distribution of Welcome Packets

  • Distribute Welcome Packets.
  • Final thoughts and encouragement for the semester ahead.
