Central Penn College Athletics is pleased to announce a new initiative called Alumni Spotlight: Where Are They Now? to highlight the post-graduation achievements of our accomplished former student-athletes.
Devon Dorsey
’16, A.S. Criminal Justice – Men’s Basketball
1. What is your fondest memory from your time at Central Penn College?
My best memories are the van rides to the games, as it allowed bonding with my teammates while getting to know them. We all grew up in challenging areas and faced different obstacles; however, we got an opportunity to play college basketball against Division I teams. We did beat a Division II team where I ended the game with 35 points and 14 rebounds.
2. What accomplishments are you most proud of?
I am proud that I got my degree… I am proud to be the first one in my family with a college degree. Lastly, I am proud to be the first player from CPC to play overseas and I will continue to help other players from CPC continue their careers.
3. Where is your current place of employment?
I currently work at Abraxas Academy in Harrisburg, a probation school for juveniles. I love to give back and I like to help others at CPC, as I was always looked at like a big brother.
4. What is your current job title and what does the position entail?
I am a counselor, helping kids process whatever they are going through and motivating them to never give up on their future endeavors.
5. Are you still playing any sports right now?
I still play basketball in local leagues and train my son, but I finished playing international basketball in 2018 in Spain, where I won league MVP two consecutive years.
6. Did you have an opportunity to continue your sports career? If so, where and what are your plans?
I had the opportunity to continue my career professionally in Spain and had several other offers after finishing my basketball career in Spain, but my family motivated me to return back to home.
7. What is one thing Central Penn Athletics taught you that you carry with you today?
CPC taught me that I will have others in my life who will support me. My mother, unfortunately, passed away and my brother also lost his life. My other brother did not choose the right life path. Still, my teammates were my family, as they supported me through everything, and I am forever thankful to have those friends with me through life’s ups and downs.
8. What advice can you give current students?
Believe in the process and ask for help if needed, do not be scared to ask for help. Ask for help during college and after, too! I help players after college, and they will continue the trend to help others, too.
9. How did your athletic involvement aid in the path that you chose following graduation?
All my life, I faced obstacles, so I knew that I wanted to help others once I graduated. As a freshman, I was treated like a senior as I was a starter, and I carried myself differently off the court, which helped me become a leader.
10. If you can recall, why did you choose to attend CPC?
I received a call one day by an individual from CPC, who helped get me onto the right path. I was thankful to receive that phone call because I was sitting in a bad neighborhood with the wrong mindset. I liked what he told me and the support that I received from everyone on campus. The opportunity helped me mature as a professional and get me onto the right path of life. I hope one day that college is free as it will open up several opportunities for others to become successful.
11. What was your favorite non-athletic activity at CPC?
I liked attending theatre shows that were going on and the ATEC parties!
