Students are eligible to sit for the National Certification Exam (NBSTSA) upon successful completion of all programmatic requirements, including clinical internship. After successfully passing this exam, the individual will be able to use the designation of CST-Certified Surgical Technologist. Information regarding how to apply to take the exam will be provided in the SUR299 course. Exams are offered online at local testing centers. If a candidate fails to pass the certification exam on the first attempt, there is a 30-day waiting period before the candidate may re-test. You may attempt to retest three times with a minimum of 30 days between tests. After the third attempt, you must wait one year (with remediation) before your fourth and final attempt.

Central Penn College is an Accredited institution and a member of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE or the Commission) www.msche.org. Central Penn College’s accreditation status is Non-Compliance Warning. The Commission’s most recent action on the institution’s accreditation status on November 21, 2024, was to warn the institution. MSCHE is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education to conduct accreditation and pre-accreditation (candidate status) activities for institutions of higher education including distance, correspondence education, and direct assessment programs offered at those institutions. The Commission’s geographic area of accrediting activities is throughout the United States.

Degrees offered
Postsecondary Certificate program; Associate in Science and Associate in Applied Science degree programs; Bachelor of Science degree programs; and Master of Professional Studies degree program. Certificate program coursework can be completed in nine months. Associate degree coursework can be completed in as little as 15 months, plus an internship. Bachelor’s degree programs may be completed in three years, plus an internship. Master’s degree coursework can be completed in as little as a year and a half.*
*The undergraduate program length is designed for students who are enrolled full time and complete and pass every course required for graduation in the specified time frame. The graduate program length is designed for graduate students who are enrolled part time and successfully complete six consecutive terms. The postsecondary certificate program length is designed for students who are enrolled part time and successfully complete three consecutive terms
