A nonpartisan examination of the history, purpose and process of impeachment
The Central Penn College Legal Studies Society will host a forum to discuss the history and meaning of impeachment in the context of the ongoing impeachment trial of President Donald J. Trump.
The forum will be led by Legal Studies professor Margaret Stuski, who served as chief counsel of the Pennsylvania Senate during the 1994 impeachment of Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Rolf Larsen, and Criminal Justice professor John Contino, who was chief counsel of the State Ethics Commission during this period and will discuss corruption issues.
In his annual report, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts––who is presiding over the impeachment trial––condemned the corrosive effect of “rumor and false information” spread through social media, declaring that Americans must demand not only a functioning government but also “the tools to understand and improve it.” In this spirit, the Legal Studies Society seeks to spread knowledge about the impeachment process through this forum.
