Teaching Philosophy
As an educator, my primary goal is to create a student-centered learning environment that emphasizes critical thinking, ethical communication, and practical skill-building. I am committed to individualized advising, recognizing that each student brings a unique set of experiences, challenges, and aspirations. By tailoring guidance to their needs, I strive to empower students to achieve academic and personal success. Incorporating real-world application into the classroom is essential to my teaching philosophy. I actively collaborate with career services to align coursework with market demands, helping students build portfolios that demonstrate their readiness for professional opportunities. This approach not only fosters academic growth but also instills confidence in students as they prepare for the workforce. I am deeply invested in fostering the intelligent and ethical use of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence. By integrating AI tools into coursework, I encourage students to critically evaluate their potential and limitations, preparing them to navigate the rapidly evolving digital landscape with integrity.
Bio
Paul Miller started his professional journey at WRSK Radio in Slippery Rock, Pa., as an on-air personality and baseball color commentator. In 2003, he made the jump to the Butler County Radio network in Butler, Pa., where he worked in the newsroom, on-air, and in promotions. Upon starting his master's program in 2005, he began working with a company called Solutions for Advertising and held a number of positions, including sales associate and social media editor. During that time, he immersed himself in social media, a new form of communication that would revolutionize the world. From that point forward, he began consulting small businesses in the Harrisburg region, working with dozens of businesses in helping them develop a plan for their content on social. He continues consulting with businesses through a local company. In 2013, he began teaching part-time at Central Penn College and became a full-time faculty member in 2016. Since then, he was promoted to program coordinator of the Communication department, and has been awarded Faculty Member of the Quarter, Club Advisor of the Year, and Faculty Member of the Year. In addition, he is the faculty co-advisor to the Knightly News Media Club, the student news organization on campus. He has hosted, produced and edited every episode of the Knightly News Podcast, which has reached its 200th episode in late 2024. Under Miller’s guidance, the media club produces a quarterly publication featuring the best recent articles from the group’s blog. Under Miller's guidance, in 2018, the club started streaming Central Penn Knights basketball and baseball games. “It’s a great experience for everyone involved––the club, the athletes and coaches and the school.”
