Central Penn College PTA Grad Co-authors Book on Chronic Illness
Mollie Ayers, a 2010 graduate of Central Penn College with an A.S. in Physical Therapy Assisting (PTA), has transformed her personal journey with chronic illness into a powerful message of hope for others. Alongside her former colleague, Anne Schober, Mollie co-authored the book “Invincible: Finding the Light Beyond the Darkness of Chronic Illness.” This inspiring book compiles the stories of 28 individuals living with chronic illnesses, shedding light on their challenges and triumphs and offering guidance for anyone navigating similar hardships.
Mollie’s path to this project was deeply personal. As someone who battles her own “invisible” illness, she was moved to contribute when she saw a post about the book’s creation. Drawing from her background as a PTA, Mollie understood the physical and emotional impact of chronic illness, and she knew how important it was to give these often-overlooked voices a platform. Her willingness to share her own story, alongside others, is a testament to the compassion and dedication that Central Penn College’s PTA program instilled in her.
The writing process was a transformative experience for all involved. Initially, the contributors referred to themselves as “28 invisible warriors” because many with chronic illnesses don’t appear sick. But through their shared stories of anger, denial, grief, acceptance, and eventual triumph, they realized that they are not invisible – they are Invincible.
“Invincible: Finding the Light Beyond the Darkness of Chronic Illness” was officially launched last year in Lancaster and is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other major outlets.
Mollie’s journey also highlights the impact that Central Penn College’s PTA program has had on her life. The hands-on experience, combined with the compassionate approach to patient care, helped Mollie understand the intricacies of the body and the importance of empathy when working with individuals facing long-term conditions. These same skills played a significant role in her ability to contribute to a project that requires deep emotional insight and sensitivity.
We’re incredibly proud of Mollie and her fellow contributors for their courage and determination in sharing their stories. Her success is a powerful reminder of how Central Penn’s programs, like the PTA program, help to shape individuals who not only excel in their careers but also make a positive impact on the world around them.
