Healthcare Informatics Certificate at Central Penn College starts in July
Central Penn College continues to roll out short-term certificate programs that enable students to gain valuable, skills-specific knowledge. The newest program is the 9-month, 18-credit, Healthcare Informatics certificate, which launches in July, the beginning of the college’s summer term.
“The Healthcare Informatics Certificate Program is a game-changer for healthcare professionals and other degreed candidates who are looking to move into this data-reliant field,” said Dr. Tolani Adebanjo, assistant professor at Central Penn College.
Healthcare Background
Healthcare Informatics is a discipline that uses data acquisition and analysis to achieve better outcomes for patients and ensure more efficient delivery of services and treatment by providers.
This fully online program is designed for working professionals who have a bachelor’s degree in STEM, nursing, healthcare management or a bachelor’s degree in another area approved by the program director.
Growing Field
In recent years, the central Pennsylvania region has seen a building boom when it comes to hospitals and healthcare facilities. That growth bodes well for students in the burgeoning healthcare informatics field.
“For 21st-century medicine, healthcare informatics is a key driver that enables healthcare organizations to fully maximize their resources, so they can provide the highest level of care to the greatest number of patients,” said Adebanjo, who was instrumental in designing the program.
“This new program combines multiple disciplines, including healthcare, business management and statistical analysis, and prepares students for a career in this impactful profession,” said Anne Bizup, Dean of Health Sciences at the college. The cohort for the summer term is limited to 20 students.
In the past year, the college has launched more than a half-dozen certificate programs ––including Medical Billing & Coding, Optometric Technician and Human Resource Management –– with more planned to debut this year.
