Central Penn College COVID-19 FAQs
COVID-19
The college has implemented enhanced safety protocols based on guidelines from the CDC and Pennsylvania Department of Health.
These safety measures include:
- Mask-wearing in all buildings and classrooms, and outdoors when unable to maintain social distance
- Limited class sizes, with students spaced at least six feet apart
- Increased hand-sanitizer stations and increased cleanings throughout the college, especially of common areas
- Required online screening form prior to first visit to campus
- Daily pre-screening form available through the Central Penn App
- Contact tracing through the Central Penn App
Yes. All students, faculty, and staff must wear masks upon entering any Central Penn College building. Masks must be worn when indoors and when social distancing cannot be consistently maintained outdoors (such as walking in groups). Students and faculty will be required to wear masks when seated at their desks or lecturing within the classroom. If a student has a medical condition that would prevent them from wearing a mask, they should contact Megan Peterson, Dean of Equity and Multicultural Affairs, for further instruction. Students will need to provide documentation from a doctor that they cannot wear a mask in order to receive an exemption
The Knight & Day Cafe adheres strictly to the requirements and guidelines in place for food service operations, including social distancing, traffic flow, limiting the number of customers at one time, cashless payment system, continuous cleaning and disinfecting, food preparation, and monitoring of staff. In order to ensure safe operations, the café is currently operating with a limited menu consisting primarily of grab-and-go options. Seating in the café is closed.
Students, faculty, and staff will be asked to complete a daily pre-screening form via the Central Penn App. If clearance is not granted by the app (due to, for example, flu-related symptoms), that individual will be asked to remain at home and avoid coming to campus.
The campus community also will be asked to participate in anonymous contract tracing. QR codes have been placed outside of all classrooms and offices that can be scanned easily and quickly using the app. If a positive case of COVID-19 has been confirmed on campus, this information will be used to contact those with potential exposure.
STUDENT SERVICES
Disability Support Services currently offers online accommodations and will work with students to ensure all relevant accommodations are available in an online environment. Testing accommodations, assistive technology, and other standard accommodations easily translate online. Questions regarding accommodations can be directed to Disability Support Services at equity@centralpenn.edu or 717-728-2398.
The college’s Student Alert Team works with students to provide individualized academic and non-academic support services. If you have been directly impacted by COVID-19 and need support services, please contact StudentAlert@centralpenn.edu.
Yes! A variety of student activities will be offered both virtually and on-ground for students. All activities will be modified to follow current safety protocols around COVID-19 including social distancing, masking requirements, and room occupancy levels.
Tuition
Yes, all incoming institutional student scholarships that are awarded through the student’s financial plan are still awarded.
Please communicate with the Department of Financial Aid to discuss how housing deposits impact your financial plan.
Financial aid support is dependent upon a number of variables and a significant change in current and future earnings could impact the calculation. As each person’s situation is unique, it is best to schedule a time with the Department of Financial Aid to review the specific circumstances.
The College’s business office staff will work with students on an individual basis to arrange payment plans that consider the economic disruption being experienced in the country.
SCHEDULE AND CLASSES
Central Penn College has been a leader in our region for online education since 2004. Whether a student takes classes in a physical or virtual classroom, the quality of instruction is the same. Each online class will conduct interactions and activities in a unique manner. However, the College uses a single virtual classroom environment (Blackboard). All virtual classrooms will look similar, but like on-ground classes, once you enter the room, interactions with your professor and fellow students will be unique. All lectures, discussions, course materials, tests, quizzes, homework, etc. will be conducted in your virtual classroom.
The College and our Education Foundation are continually researching options to assist students in need of technology, so that they may learn effectively in an online environment. Central Penn recently partnered with Marco Technology, a third-party vendor, to provide laptops and other technology supplies at a discounted rate.
Students will have the opportunity to use their financial aid to purchase this technology. This will require an assigned coupon code. Students wishing to use their aid will need to contact the financial aid office immediately at financialaid@centralpenn.edu or studentaccounts@centralpenn.edu for assistance. The process will be similar to the book voucher process, which deducts the purchase of the technology from the upcoming refund. Any changes to your financial aid eligibility could cause a balance owed due to purchasing the laptop using your financial aid.
Central Penn College General COVID-19 FAQs
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses, some causing illness in people and others circulating among animals, including camels, cats and bats.
The 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is a new virus that causes respiratory illness in people and can spread from person-to-person. This virus was first identified during an investigation into an outbreak in Wuhan, China.
According to the CDC, people with COVID-19 have reported a wide range of symptoms––from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus.
People with these symptoms may have COVID-19: Fever or chills, Cough, Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, Fatigue, Muscle or body aches, Headache, New loss of taste or smell, Sore throat, Congestion or runny nose, Nausea or vomiting and Diarrhea.
This list does not include all possible symptoms. The CDC will continue to update this list.
Symptoms may develop rapidly and be much more dramatic than a “typical” cold. If you have any of these symptoms, you should contact your healthcare provider. Avoid contact with other people.
Human coronaviruses spread just like the flu or a cold:
- Through the air by coughing or sneezing
- Close personal contact such as touching or shaking hands
- Touching an object or surface with the virus on it andoccasionally, fecal contamination.
Good personal hygiene is key to preventing the spread of the disease. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends:
- Wash your hands often with soap and hot water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water aren’t readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow, not your hand.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
Emergency preparedness is a critical focus for Central Penn College. As always, any urgent communications to the campus community would be sent through CP Alerts, a campus-wide notification system that generates phone calls, text messages and emails to students and employees in the event of an emergency.
If you’re not signed up, login to the portal on My.CentralPenn to register for CP Alert notifications.
If a need arises in the future, on-ground classes could be taken remotely via Blackboard, Central Penn’s online learning portal.
Conference Center Information
The health and safety of our guests and the community is our top priority. Given the current concerns related to COVID-19, the Conference Center will remain closed until further notice. The college’s leadership team is continually monitoring the situation. As additional information is made available it will be located here.
